'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teens Desperately Seek Answers After Alpine Fire
The relatives of teenagers unaccounted for after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for official news and requesting clues about their children online.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Verified footage depict the ceiling catching alight as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Emergency services have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the fatalities of the disaster, which killed four dozen individuals and hurt another scores more. A spokesperson stated on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with work still underway to identify the other six.
In the meantime, families and friends have been using online platforms to request clues about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his parent.
The who lives of a town near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she stated.
She continued that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend informed me they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators said, "I've always been struck by his good nature and positive demeanor, combined with great maturity. Every time ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
